Fabian's Spirit, who was formerly trained by the powerful Ciaron Maher and David Eustace combination, ran second for Daffy in a restricted race at Colac in his first start for the veteran mentor.
"Fabian's Spirit missed the start slightly before flashing home over the 1100 metres," he said.
"He can get a bit toey in the barriers if he jumps well in the Peter Blank I think he'll be competitive.
"He's still a bit green and learning about racing. He's up in class in the Peter Blank but with a bit of luck he should run a good race."
Epic Grey resumes in the Peter Blank for Warrnambool trainer Lindsey Smith.
The five-year-old has failed to win first-up from six starts but has ran second on four occasions and third in another run.
Consistent Warrnambool sprinter Favonski must be respected.
He has won once and placed four times from his past five outings.
The Peter Blank Sprint is race five on the six event program and will be run at 3.50pm.
Meanwhile, Warrnambool trainer Aaron Purcell has accepted with his imported galloper Guizot in the $160,000 Standish Handicap down the famous Flemington straight on New Year's Day.
