Anthony Dowd has taken up the role for 2020 in the Warrnambool and District league.
Dowd, who will also continue to coach the club's under 12.5 football side next year, has been coaching juniors for the past six years.
He said the Dogs senior football team - which finished bottom of the ladder this year - was taking the right approach.
"Last year was a pretty hard year for us, we had a lot of senior players leave from the season before," he said.
"We were a pretty young side this year.
"Mick (senior coach Mick Phillips) has gone with the policy of giving a lot of younger boys the opportunity.
"We're going the same way next year as well.
"I reckon our average age for the senior team will be around that 22-23 (years) mark.
"And I think into the future, over the next couple of years, I think that's the best way to go."

He said the club had been going well off-field with new faces joining the committee.
"There are a lot of really good people who are on the committee and around the club, who are willing to help out," he said.
"So things are looking pretty good for the club."
Dowd's children Ethan (under 18s) and Amber (17 and under netball) both play for Dennington.
