A 21-year-old man from the Casterton area was arrested on Saturday morning after two grass fires were allegedly lit near Dunan and Ridge Roads, Henty.
He has been charged with two counts of arson.
Hamilton Sergeant Paul Stanhope said he has been bailed to appear in court next year.
"The fire was first reported at 10.11am today and the vehicle was seen leaving the scene of the fire around that time," he said.
"An hour later the 21-year-old male was arrested by the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit. Police put their full resources behind it, there was a chopper on the way.
"It's a grass fire, we are unsure of the size or spread at this stage but there is a large column of smoke visible.
"We would like to thank members of the public who assisted police with the investigation."
CFA attended and extinguished the fires with no damage to surrounding properties.
He has been bailed and is due to face the Hamilton Magistrates' Court on 26 February 2020.
