A Portland man will today appear in court charged with possessing one of eight firearms stolen in a burglary at the weekend.

Detective Senior Constable Jarrod Anderson, of the Portland police crime investigation unit, said a break-in was committed at a south Portland address between Friday and Sunday, which resulted in eight rifles being stolen.
Those guns included high-powered rifles and .22 calibre guns.
"So far we have recovered one of those firearms and a Portland man in his 30s has been arrested and charged with possession of that firearm," he said.
"He was remanded in custody and will appear in the Portland Magistrates Court today for a bail/remand hearing. He has assisted police with our inquiries."

In a separate incident, a Portland man in his 20s was arrested about 4pm on Monday afternoon after police officers intercepted a vehicle.
He has been charged with trafficking ice and possessing a stolen and unregistered firearm.
That gun is not part of the eight firearms stolen in south Portland at the weekend.
He has also been remanded in custody to appear in the Portland court today for a bail/remand hearing.
