The teenager competed in race two of the Victorian Triathlon Series at Sandringham on Sunday.
De Silva-Smith, who was in the 15-19 years category, was 11th overall in a time of two hours and 13 minutes.
He was the youngest triathlete across the line of the top 15.
The young gun said it was a relief to complete his first Olympic distance event.
"I wasn't expecting a whole lot with the result going into it because it was my first time doing that distance," he said.

"To get a good time was a bonus.
"I had a few targets but I checked them off pretty quickly."
The Warrnambool Tri Club member wanted to go under 45 minutes in the run leg and he did it in 41.52.
He also achieved his target of doing the bike leg in about an hour.
The youngster said he was surprised he still had energy left for the run leg.
"I felt strong even though it was a bigger distance," he said.
De Silva-Smith, an Emmanuel College Year 11 student, wants to bring his time down when he competes at the St Kilda Olympic triathlon at the end of March 2020.
He wants to finish the run in under 40 minutes and the bike leg in under an hour.
"I've got a good few months to prepare for that one and hopefully I can do better," he said.
