Bulldogs skipper Paddy Mahony said it was pleasing to see Wright get some reward for his bowling.
"It was well-deserved for Tom who has bowled well without much luck this season," he said of the second-change bowler.
Wright had picked up a total of four wickets from his other three matches.
Mahony was just as impressed with his opening bowlers Tim Bryce (1-11) and Nathan Shand (1-7).
"Our opening bowlers never bowled a bad bowl," he said.
The captain said the pair beat the edge numerous times and heaped the pressure on Grassmere's batsmen.
The Bulldogs were third before the encounter while the Meerkat's were first.
Mahony said his group wasn't getting ahead of itself.
"Premierships aren't won in December," he said.
"But you'd like to be somewhere near the top and give yourself a good chance."
Purnim's Dale Beane, who took 5-18, was the match-winner for his side against Killarney.
Wangoom batsman Chris Arthur scored a critical 54 as his team posted a win against Yambuk.
The Buks' Todd McLean (74) and Joseph Forrest (62) batted well but their team fell 10 runs short of victory.
Mailors Flat's Damian Jones hit 85 and helped his side to a winning 222 against Hawkesdale.
The Cats' David West nearly matched Jones' effort, scoring 84 runs of his own.
But the Cats fell 21 runs short in their chase.
