The Standard received the 'best print/online coverage - daily' award at a presentation lunch at Carlton's Princes Park on Friday.
The Standard was shortlisted alongside Geelong Advertiser and Shepparton News for the highly sought-after top prize.
Editor Greg Best said it was reward for the paper's hard-working sports journalists Justine McCullagh-Beasy, Sean Hardeman, Brian Allen and Nick Ansell and talented photographers Morgan Hancock, Mark Witte, Anthony Brady and Rob Gunstone.
"The award recognises our outstanding coverage and commitment to local football," Best said.
"Footy is a passionate game and our team's passion matches that of the players, volunteers and supporters.
"We strive to give our audience the best possible sports coverage, not just football, but netball, basketball, speedway, racing and cricket to name a few.
"We are honoured and delighted to receive such an award, it's fantastic acknowledgement for the team."
McCullagh-Beasy was shortlisted in two categories (best news story and best feature story), Hardeman shortlisted for best feature and Hancock shortlisted in two photography sections.
