Senior Constable Tim Brosowsky said the trailer broke away from a truck about 4.30pm on Thursday
"The trailer snapped about halfway down the sway bar, travelled about 100 metres along Merrivale Drive before hitting a gutter and turning over," he said.
"The bobcat was properly secured to the trailer.
"The owner was driving a truck with a backhoe on the tray and couldn't see the trailer.
"He didn't notice he had lost the trailer until he was contacted by police about 30 minutes later."
Senior Constable Brosowsky said it was fortunate the incident occurred at the time it did.
"If it was any earlier there would have been school children walking along this section of Merrivale Drive," he said.
"Thankfully no one was injured in this incident but it is a good reminder for all businesses to check their equipment and make sure it is in safe working order."
