The new timetable allows a busy Saturday morning train to run express between Geelong and Footscray, reducing journey time for passengers and minimising the risk of delays due to passenger dwell times at stations closer to Melbourne.
As of December 1, the Saturday 7.13am Melbourne bound service will run express from Geelong, cutting nearly 10 minutes off the trip.
An extra Saturday service at 10.16am from Geelong to Melbourne will also become a permanent part of the timetable.
And the 6.05pm weekday service from Melbourne to Geelong will stop at Deer Park.
