Darren Chatfield, 34, of Hisbiscus Avenue, pleaded guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates Court to aggravated burglary, theft and intentionally damaging property.
The court heard on July 25, the victim - Chatfield's former partner - woke up about 3am "feeling strange".
She looked for her phone and couldn't find it so contacted police and reported the burglary.
Officers attended the property and located a broken window and Chatfield's blood on the ground.
The mobile phone was found in his possession on August 2.
Magistrate Julie Grainger said the offending would have put the victim in "great fear".
"The fact that someone has broken into her home, where she has a right to feel safe and protected, is a very serious matter," she said.
"I really hope that you have reflected on that during your time in custody."
Chatfield's lawyer told the court his client had made positive progress on a community corrections order, which ordered him to spend five-and-a-half months in Gippsland's Indigenous learning place Wulgunggo Ngalu.
But, he said his client returned to Warrnambool without continued support, relapsed on methamphetamine and wound up back in custody.
The lawyer told the court the drugs made Chatfield paranoid and lead him to believe his ex girlfriend was seeing someone else.
When asked if he wished to say anything to the court, Chatfield said he was sorry to the victim and he was ready to cop the punishment.
"Do the crime you do the time," he said.
Chatfield was jailed for the 90 days he had already served on remand.
Upon his release, he recommenced an 18-month community corrections order with conditions, including he undergo mental health assessment, offending behaviour programs and assessment and treatment for drug abuse.
