A Melbourne P-plate driver has had his car impounded after being clocked at 172km/h in a 100 zone near Tyrendarra on Saturday.

Portland Highway Patrol unit officers were stunned at the speed of a green P-plater as he was travelling through Tyrendarra.
The young Melbourne man not only had his vehicle impounded, but he will be facing the Warrnambool Magistrates Court early next year on charges expected to including high-end speeding and associated offences.
"We've lost 244 lives on our roads this year, and behaviour like this is reckless not only to the driver but to those around them," a police spokesman said.
"At these speeds you would have:
- Less time to notice and react to potential hazards,
- A higher likelihood of losing control of your vehicle, and
- An increase in the distance required to stop your vehicle.
"Please, think before you drive," he said.
