Koroit's Scott Boschen made it to the last 16 in singles. In the mixed pairs, Timboon's Shane Pudney and Gill Vorwerk won through to the final 16, while David Wells (City) and Wendy Wilson made it to the round of 32, losing in the last end.

The WDBD's new Bowls Link scoring system is in full use, with clubs submitting team members and results online. From round 5, any club who fails to submit player names before the scheduled match will forfeit. It's important for team managers to complete score sheets carefully, with correct spelling of player and team names, match-ups as well as accurate inputting of results.

There's been some cold, windy and wet weather on pennant days so far, and some Midweek Pennant matches had to be abandoned.

After fixture books were printed, Bowls Victoria made a change to the conditions of play for pennant competition, in regard to the number of ends that constitute a game. Since metro pennant is 21 ends only, the WDBD has adopted the following rule for 25 ends of play:

When play has commenced, and the game is abandoned due to inclement weather following 55 ends being completed for a 12-player game or 35 ends being completed for an 8-player game, the game will be awarded to the side who has the higher number of total shots at the time the game is abandoned, and points allocated according to side win, team win and team tie.

If the game is abandoned prior to the above number of ends being completed, the maximum available points will be shared equally for a tied game. This season, a new rule was brought in to compensate for the implications of altered conditions of play with the City Memorial roof. If half, or more than half, of the matches of a pennant division are abandoned because of inclement weather, points for that division will be shared.

These rules were discussed at the October delegates' meeting. Clubs are to ensure team managers are aware.

Port Fairy: Tenders have come in for the new clubrooms and a council decision is to be made on December 17.

Dennington had the final of the Men's 100 Up competition last Friday night. Michael McCallum defeated Darren King (102 to 88) in a high-standard game.

Lawn Tennis: The recent Bendigo Bank Mixed Fours Tournament was a success. Two teams had equal games won and shots up, so ends won had to be considered to decide a winning team. Congratulations to Graeme and Shirley Sharpe and Roger and Barb Hill from Warrnambool. Runners-up were Bryan, Brendan , Casey Sheehan and Renae Perry from City. Lawn Tennis members travelled to Macarthur last Saturday to contest the David Yates Shield. Although the home team was too strong this year, players had an enjoyable day.

Mortlake: The annual RSL day held last Saturday was well supported and raised $840 for the support of veterans. The bowls day is a major fundraising event for the Mortlake RSL.

City: In the women's 100 up grand final last Friday night, Julie Dosser defeated Shirley Brown in a close encounter. The club conducted a mixed pairs event on Sunday, with players attracted from many clubs.

Four games of 10 ends resulted in John and Betty Nisbet winning the major prize from Ray and Moira Cooknell, with Don Price and Faye Duffield third. The ladies' B grade championship is under way.

The club is playing other club championship events in the evening to cater for those with working or daytime commitments.

Round five of Weekend Pennant resumes Saturday. In division 1, top-placed Warrnambool Gold travels to Port Fairy Red, while third-placed City Red will battle with City Gold (fourth). In division 2, the match of the round is likely to be Koroit White (second) against City White (fourth).

In Midweek Pennant, division 1 ladder leader Warrnambool Gold plays Terang Gold, while City Gold (second) meets Dennington Dolphins (fourth). In division 2, City Pink hosts second-placed Lawn Blue in the match of the round.
