Cheerie Voskresenky, 43, of Koroit Street, appeared in Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Wednesday where she made a self-represented bail application.
She told the court she moved to Warrnambool about two months ago to start fresh, engage with services and avoid heroin.
Ms Voskresenky said on the day of the offending she had used the drug ice and lost control.
"I made a bad choice by using that drug which made me react in a way that I wish will never happen again," she said.
Magistrate Mark Stratmann said the woman had failed to show exceptional circumstances why she should be released from custody and bail was refused.
Detective Senior Constable Stuart Sims, of the Colac police crime investigation unit, said Ms Voskresenky rummaged through an unlocked car in Warrnambool on Sunday, stealing a small amount of money and a phone charger.
He said the accused then travelled to Colac and approached a 71-year-old male in Bromfield Street.
He said the pair were known to each other.
The detective alleged Ms Voskresenky punched the male three or four times in the stomach and once to the face.
"She then removed four $10 notes and a house key from his pocket," he said.
"She's then gone to his house and removed $200 hidden in his bedroom."
Ms Voskresenky told the court she had known the victim for 10 years, stating that he was "like an uncle to me".
She asked the detective if the alleged offending was as serious as it sounded, in which he replied: "That is how it played out".
The woman will appear in court again on January 20 next year.
