Pure Academy's hair, beauty, massage and nail technology students spent Monday preparing their models for the annual showcase at Brother Fox at Deakin University.
South West TAFE Hair, Beauty and Massage Senior Educator Kathy Hall said the night was for students to apply their breadth of knowledge learnt over the year.
"It's a good opportunity for students to do something they may have not done otherwise," she said.
"It's also a chance for them to show off their creativity and let their artistic skills shine as opposed to the commercial salon work they are used to producing.
"Students can see hair and beauty in a different way and have a lot of fun."
Certificate III in Hairdressing student Shannon Philp created three looks including two styles with moving components.
"I created a long hair up-do, Alice in Wonderland inspired look and a mermaid design," she said.
"I got here at 8.30am to begin work on my models.
"It took a couple of weeks to come up with the design and a good 24 hours to make the hair pieces out of synthetic hair, wire and robotics.
"This is teaching me to work under pressure and gives me an idea of what runway hair is like which is definitely something I think I'd like to do in the future."
More than 200 people attended the showcase event at Brother Fox in Deakin University to see the looks take to the catwalk.
Pure Awards winners included Shannon Philp, Georgia McKenzie, Millicent O'Hanlon, Grace Suckling, Michael Meaola, Tara Neave, Marly Williams, Tegan Roth, Nadia Groenewald, Angeleen Fogarty and Serena Van Someren just to name a few.
The 'Student of the Year' awards in the varying aspects of the hair, beauty and massage courses were also announced.
The success of the Pure Awards come a few weeks after Georgia McKenzie, Prue Albert and Shannon Philp won major awards Hair and Beauty Industry Association Awards.
