Marcus Edwards, 29, of Silvester Street, appeared in Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Monday where he unsuccessfully applied for bail.
Magistrate Mark Stratmann said Mr Edwards was arrested in September and had spent about 70 days in custody on remand over two alleged incidents, including an aggravated burglary and "extremely dangerous" driving in Portland.
He said the burglary occurred when the victim was home and was subsequently assaulted.
The court Mr Edwards was previously jailed and placed on a community corrections order for an unrelated aggravated burglary in 2017. That corrections order was ongoing at the time of the new alleged offending.
Mr Stratmann refused the application, stating the accused had failed to show exceptional circumstances why he should be granted bail. Mr Edwards was remanded in custody until next year.
The court heard on September 3, a male drove Mr Edwards and another co-accused to a property in Portland's Mitchell Crescent.
The three men entered through the rear door of the property and began arguing with the victim over a drug debt.
The co-accused grabbed the victim with two hands and threw him against a wall, causing damage.
The victim was then hit five times to the head before the co-accused threw him into a TV cabinet.
The victim was left with bruises and abrasions and all three visitors were known to him.
Then on September 5, Mr Edwards was allegedly driving a Daewoo Hatch on Portland's Fawthrop Street with two passengers.
Police attempted to intercept the accused, who drove away at high speed.
He drove on the wrong side of the road, swerving at 80km/h and then travelling at 60km/h in a 100km/h zone.
Police terminated the pursuit for safety reasons.
A tip-off from the public led to Mr Edward's arrest at a Must Street property on September 9.
