Koroit police Sergeant Pat Day said the man was caught drink driving on Saturday afternoon.
"He was seen by Koroit police members overtaking unsafely on the Princes highway at Tower Hill," he said.
"He was soon after intercepted and failed a road side preliminary breath test. He later recorded a breath alcohol level of 0.089 and was issued with a $496 penalty notice.
"His licence was cancelled and he will be disqualified for six months."
Sergeant Day said such driving behaviour would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
"It is very disappointing driver behaviour, to not only see someone taking a risk to overtake on that part of the highway, but then to find they are well over .05 while doing it," he said.

A 60-year-old Koroit district man will also be summonsed to appear in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court after a random firearms inspection revealed unsecured guns.
"Koroit police members attended an address on Sunday afternoon to check the storage of firearms at a property and located three rifles not in a safe, but stored in an unlocked shed among some lengths of timber," Sergeant Day said.
"They were seized and taken to the police station for safe keeping.
"We don't want firearms getting into the hands of people that shouldn't have them.
"If you take on the responsibility of owning a rifle then you also take on the responsibility of making sure they are locked up and out of harm's way."
Sergeant Day said country police were regularly doing firearms inspections to ensure gun owners were complying with laws and to limit the chance of firearms getting into criminal hands.
