Lakers captain-coach Steven Fisher said he was thrilled to have the wicket-keeper/batsman on board for his team's first win of the season against Simpson.
Niranjana made 10 runs in his inaugural innings, took two catches and was involved in a run out.
Fisher said the Lakers other Sri Lankan recruit, Shaluka Silva, got Niranjana to the club.
"He flew over to Australia this week," he said of the top-order batsman.
Fisher said the club was stoked to get a full-time wicket-keeper, something it was targeting.
Simpson batted first and made 133 off 43 overs.

The Lakers lost four early wickets but a strong partnership from Jye McLaughlin (39) and Fisher (35) steadied the ship.
"That was probably the key to which way the game was going to go," Fisher said.
"We were lucky enough to be able to capitalise on a couple of chances they missed."
Camperdown mowed down Simpson's target in 39 overs.
Fisher praised his spinners Silva (1-27) and Simon Richardson (2-36).
"The game was probably 50/50 at that stage (when they started bowling) but they were able to get into it and put the game in our favour," he said.
Fisher said it was great for his team to get its first win after washouts and two losses to the "yardsticks of the competition" in Mortlake and Pomborneit.
"To get that first win is always positive to get that belief going," he said.
