The nine-year-old's hat-trick - all bowled - came from his first three deliveries of his team's win against Cobden at Cobden Technical School.

Castle, who ended up with a four-wicket haul, said they were his first wickets for the season which began at the start of the month.

"I was very surprised," he said.

"I jumped up and put my hands in the air."

The youngster was soon mobbed by teammates to help him celebrate the rare achievement.

The right-arm paceman, who is in his second season with the Bulls, said he just bowled straight at the wickets.

He admitted he was nervous on his hat-trick ball but then relieved once he took his third-straight wicket.

The young Bull said his favourite Australian players were Steve Smith and spinner Nathan Lyon.

"I like him because he's a good bowler and he bowls how I bowl," Castle said of Lyon.

Castle said he enjoyed playing cricket with his mates.

"I like to see them all and we get to have fun," he said.

Meanwhile, in SWCA division one, Bookaar defeated Heytesbury Rebels.

Rebels star recruit Hamish Huffadine was forced to retire hurt after making six runs.

Rebels captain-coach Paul Vogels said the opening batsman sustained a hip injury and took no further part in the match.

"Hopefully, it's just one week and he'll come back after that," he said.

Vogels added it was fortunate his team had a bye this week.

Bookaar's opening pair Eddie Lucas (46) and Tim Fitzgerald (48) guided their side to a comfortable victory.

Mortlake defeated Cobden with Clinton Baker scoring 69 not out at Cobden Technical School.
