Andrew Jennings, 27, of King Street, pleaded guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates Court to shop theft and failing to appear in court.
The court heard on February 25, he attended Best and Less in Warrnambool's Gateway Plaza about 9am and picked out various items of clothing before entering a change room.
He then exited the room wearing all of the items, including a new hooded jumper, shoes, pants, a short sleeve shirt and sunglasses.
Jennings fled the store, leaving behind his old clothes.
He was arrested on March 11, interviewed, charged and released on bail.
He then failed to appear in court and was arrested in south Melbourne on September 23.
Victorian Aboriginal Legal Services lawyer Hilary Russel said Jennings struggled with a drug addiction and a diagnosis of schizophrenia.
She said he had a lengthy criminal history that started at the age of 17.
Jennings was jailed for 14 days.
He remains in custody on remand charged with other offences, including aggravated burglary and theft.
He will contest those charges in Broadmeadows Magistrates Court in January next year.
