The Bushfield driver has revamped his wheels and is this season revving an engine similar to his first-ever sprintcar.

Stansfield said a frustrating run last summer inspired the switch.

"We just seemed to have trouble with the car we had last year," he said.

"It wasn't that user-friendly. We've effectively gone back to what we first started racing with as it worked a bit better.

"Each car is different and it takes a little while to nut out what they're like."

The 31-year-old is planning to tackle every SRA series round this summer but has turned his immediate focus to Saturday's Victorian Title at Premier Speedway.

"We've got a bit of belief out of our seventh-place finish a couple of weeks ago," Stansfield said.

"We'll keep going and hopefully make the A-main. We'll hopefully get another good result."

But Stansfield, a speedway fan at heart, said all roads led to the South West Conveyancing Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic.

His biggest goal is to rub shoulders with sprintcar royalty in the event's A-main.

"It would be a childhood dream come true to race in the classic's A-main," Stansfield told The Standard.

"We'd love to get a bit of momentum leading into it. You need to have all your stuff together and string a whole weekend of racing together.

"At the end of the day you're a small fish in a big pond but you have to look at competition as just another car to pass.

"You can't think 'oh my god, I'm racing childhood heroes here'."

Meanwhile, confidence will play a part in helping Stansfield improve his record.

"Sprintcar racing is a confidence sport," he said.

"You need to have confidence in your ability, confidence in the car. You can't drop your head."
