She had woken up with pains about 20 minutes before and the couple was coming up to George Taylor's Stores at Grassmere when Sheree Moroney's water broke.
Ms Moroney said she woke up about 3am on Monday morning and knew she needed to get to the hospital in Warrnambool.
"I had a couple of pains and I thought I better get in and get checked out," she said.
Ms Moroney knew the labour was progressing quickly, but she didn't want to alarm her partner. "I didn't want to tell him because I knew he would panic," she said.
"Then my water broke and I told him 'pull over, you're going to have to catch him'."
Mr Madzarevic said he initially told her he wasn't pulling over the car.
"I said 'no it's not happening'," he said.
"She told me to pull over about five times."
Mr Madzarevic pulled over to the side of the road and went to his partner's aid.
"I pulled over and the head was crowning," he said.
Mr Madzarevic dialled 000 but knew the ambulance wouldn't get there in time. "I was trying to put the seat back but there was stuff behind the seat," he said.
"I pulled him out and checked the umbilical cord and gave him a bit of a rub on the back."
Mr Madzarevic said he was relieved when Rykar, who weighed eight pounds two, let out his first scream.
"He started crying and I started breathing again," he joked.
Mr Madzarevic said he didn't have time to think about delivering his son.
"I just wanted to hear him cry," he said.
"Afterwards I was just rapt everything was OK. I was a bit off with the fairies when the ambulance rocked up."
It was the first time delivering a baby for one of the paramedics.
"The job was done, he just had to cut the cord," Mr Madzarevic joked.
Ms Moroney said she was extremely proud of her partner.
Rykar is a sibling for Mikala, 9, Cane Junior, 8, Shania, 6, and Seth, 4.
