However, an even bigger move is to leave your comfort zone, as is the case with Mitch Freedman.
He shifted from Crossley to Ballarat in search of more opportunities with horses and owners.
Freedman made the change two years ago and is relishing the move with 50 horses in work at Ballarat and his first group one runner Southern Moon running second in the $2 million VRC Derby at Flemington on Saturday.
Southern Moon was beaten by just over three lengths by Warning in the classic race over 2500 metres.
"It was a terrific run by Southern Moon and a great ride by Billy Egan to run second in the Derby," the former Russell's Creek footballer told The Standard.
"Southern Moon was beaten by a better horse on the day. We've got no complaints. Southern Moon has come a long way in this campaign.
"He shows a lot of promise and will improve off this preparation. We'll give Southern Moon a good break and get him ready for some nice races in the autumn."
Southern Moon earnt $360,000 in prizemoney for running second to Warning in the Derby. From his six starts the three-year-old colt has picked up more then $430,000 in stakemoney for his connections.
