James O'Dowd, 26, of Raglan Parade, pleaded guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates Court to possessing methamphetamine and possessing steroids.
He was charged after a police warrant executed at his home on May 10 uncovered a small quantity of methamphetamine and six vials of steroids. O'Dowd told police he was half way through a steroid cycle.
He said he must have dropped the ice, which he used "every now and then".
"If I'm going to smoke it, I have a fair crack at it," he told police.
O'Dowd told the court he had since pulled his head in and was concentrating on work and the gym.
He was fined $1200.
