Explore the countryside of Downton Abbey
Australians inspired by the recent Downton Abbey movie can walk the beautiful countryside of the Yorkshire Dales - where the film is set and partially filmed - on a self-guided, inn-to-inn walking tour.
The seven-day Yorkshire Dales walk takes in pretty villages, market towns, country meadows with drystone walls, babbling brooks and moorlands. Highlights include starting in Yorkshire's eastern lowlands in the little cathedral city of Ripon - a place frequently mentioned and sometimes appearing in the Downton Abbey television show, visiting the ruins of the 12th century Fountains Abbey, one of the most important centres of Medieval England and the largest monastic ruins in the UK, and entering limestone country via Malham Cove, a huge natural limestone formation. Guests will stay in country pubs and comfortable B&Bs.
Graded medium-hard in difficulty, with four to seven hours of walking per day, the walking tour package includes seven nights' accommodation, all breakfasts and all luggage transfers - meaning travellers only carry a day pack. The walk costs from £750 per person, twin-share (approximately A$1370 depending on exchange rates).
Save on the cruise of a lifetime
An onboard spending bonus of up to A$2000 per couple is available for explorers keen to circumnavigate the world by ship from Australia in 2021. The 108-night, round-the-world voyage aboard the 2000-passenger Sea Princess will stretch 61,000km and take in 44 destinations in 29 countries across six continents.
Unlike other globe-trotting ships, locally-based Sea Princess offers an onboard currency in Australian dollars, with no onboard tipping or currency exchange hassles. Including travel, main meals in select restaurants and entertainment for 108 nights, the world cruise sails from Sydney on June 3, 2021, or Brisbane on June 5, and heads through south-east Asia to Arabia, the Mediterranean, British Isles, Iceland, Greenland, Canada, USA, the Caribbean, South America, Tahiti and New Zealand, returning to Sydney and Brisbane in the spring of September, 2021.
The voyage offers overnight stays in Dubai, New York and Lima to allow more in-depth exploration. Late-night departures are scheduled for nine other ports on the itinerary so passengers can enjoy the local nightlife or a walk ashore after dinner.
Fares for the full 108-night world cruise start at $24,999 per person, twin-share, from Sydney or Brisbane. Australians booking the whole cruise before April 30, 2020, will receive up to $1000 per person onboard credit and additional savings of up to $1000 if they have cruised with Princess Cruises before.
