The former Knox-based basketball mentor coached the Seahawks' under 12 division one team to a title at the Warrnambool Junior Seaside Basketball Classic on Sunday.
McGorm said his team, in its first tournament of the squad season, had to work hard across the two-day competition, finishing with a 44-38 win against Hamilton Hurricanes.
"We had to get rid of a few cobwebs and once we played a few games we got in the groove of it," he said.
McGorm said Jimmy Stevens, Harry Pollock and Mali Lual were influential.
"I'm pretty lucky to have younger siblings of very good basketballers so they are well-schooled in the fundamentals of the game so we're just polishing up their skills," he said.
McGorm said Warrnambool's overall success at its home competition emphasised the depth of talent within in the association.
He said there was a buzz around basketball which bode well for the future.
"I'm focusing on five to eight year olds at school visits to get them interested and we've had really impressive numbers at Aussie Hoops and in the under 10s," McGorm said.
"We're building a nice base and all participation rates are through the roof."
The two-day competition included teams from Terang, Port Fairy, Koroit, Horsham and Mount Gambier among others.
