Samm Henderson, 27, previously of Tower Square, Warrnambool, did not apply for bail in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court today and was remanded in custody until January 6.
Ian Roberts, 37, previously of Hyland Street, Warrnambool, unsuccessfully applied for bail and was also remanded in custody until November 21 when he has other matter listed at court.
Detective Sergeant Andrew Raven, of the Warrnambool police crime investigation unit, said two men were arrested in Camperdown on Monday, where they are now living.
They were interviewed, charged with offences and remanded in custody overnight Monday to appear in the Warrnambool court today for a bail/remand hearing.
Police allege the men stole items, including Lego, from Kmart on Sunday before going to the nearby Our Lady Help Of Christians Primary School where they broke in through a toilet window.
The men were disturbed after triggering an alarm and fled from the school.
But they left a backpack, which contained personal items, identification and the sawed-off double barrel shotgun.
Mr Roberts was charged with theft, burglary and bail offences while Mr Henderson was also charged with firearm offences, including being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
Detective Sergeant Raven said 10 people were also arrested in Warrnambool on Monday as part of the statewide Operation Liege which targeted recidivist offenders.
He said four of those people were remanded in custody charged with a range of offences, including breaching their bail conditions.
"There was a concerted effort statewide to crack down on recidivist offenders, people wanted on warrants and to check people were complying with their bail conditions," he said.
"It's part of ongoing statewide operation," he said.
Police have also released an image of wanted Warrnambool man Shane Northcott regarding an outstanding warrant.
"If you know the whereabouts of Mr Northcott please call Warrnambool Police on 5560 1333 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000," Detective Sergeant Raven said.
