Business manager Julie Simmonds said she was thrilled with the numbers of people who attended the reunion despite the wet weather.

"We had in excess of 800 people come through the school on Saturday and we will be open again on Sunday," she said.

"Some people have travelled from as far away as Mission Beach in Queensland, Adelaide, Tasmania, and from all across Victoria.

"A lot of people are here reminiscing and there are lots of very fond memories of their time at the school.

"It's nice for us to hear all of their stories."

Former student and staff member Martin McDonald drove up from Ferntree Gully to visit his former stomping ground.

"The school in a local community like Cobden is awesome, everyone knows everyone," he said.

"Everyone has family and friend connections outside the school community, to bring that into a local school community there is nothing better.

"When I came back to teach in 2008 there was still 11 teachers from when I graduated year 12 in 1999. They all helped to support me as a first-year teacher because they knew me as a student.

"My father was also a teacher here, so there is a long family history at the school."

An memorial plaque and sculpture, donated by former student and Bamstone director Michael Steel, was unveiled at the school on Saturday afternoon to mark the anniversary.
