Tools valued at $1000 have been taken from the back of a ute while the owner purchased his lunch today.

The theft occurred approximately 12.15pm on Friday in Thompson Street, Hamilton, Leading Senior Constable Ian McNiven said.
"The diesel mechanic had just gone into a shop to buy his lunch when the tools were removed from the rear of his ute," Constable McNiven said.
Among the items taken from the back of the ute was a soldering iron, an angle grinder and a cordless drill. All of the tools were in a red Milwaukee tools bag.
