The school teacher replaces Liam Geary, who stepped down at the end of last season, in a role he didn't think he'd ever take up.
"I was vice-captain last year (under Liam) and with him stepping down the club looked around for outside players for this year and were unable to recruit anyone for captain or coach," the seam bowler said.
"They asked if I would do it and I thought it would be a good chance to take it up."

Munro, who has been at the club for five seasons, already has a 97-run win over Heytesbury under his belt as captain and is hopeful his side can bring its A game against powerhouse Mortlake this week.
"We just need to stick to our guns and back ourselves as we have lacked confidence the past few years," he said.
"We're going out there and not worrying about what happened in previous seasons.
"If we can achieve some individual success it will go a long way to team success and hopefully we find ourselves on right side of narrow games."
Terang is aiming for its first 2-0 start to a summer in four seasons against the Cats on Saturday.
Munro said his side would aim to control what it could control and to put the pressure on Mortlake's side.
