A Hamilton police spokesman said an incident last Saturday turned violent and a woman went to the Hamilton Base Hospital for assessment and treatment.
The man was arrested on Wednesday, interviewed and charged with reckless conduct endangering life, reckless and intentionally causing injury, unlawful assault and possession of a drug.
Lawyer Morgan Adams appeared in Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Thursday and said his client would not be applying for bail.
The man was remanded in custody and will appear in court again on November 11.
Mr Adams said the man was withdrawing from methamphetamine.
In an unrelated incident, a 24-year-old Penshurst man charged with driving offences and theft has spent a night in the police cells after he was arrested for failing to appear in court.
Levi Tihi, of Watton Street, pleaded guilty to two counts of driving unlicensed, failing to appear in court and theft.
The court heard he was observed by police driving a white Ford station wagon in Hamilton's Crox Street on August 8 this year.
Checks later revealed he did not have a driver's licence.
Then on October 5, he was intercepted driving the same car in Penshurst. He still didn't have a licence and there were three outstanding warrants for his arrest .
The vehicle was impounded at a cost of $1310.
The warrants were issued after he failed to appear in court on a single theft charge, which related to a tray of sausage stolen from a Hamilton supermarket on August 5 last year.
In sentencing, magistrate Peter Mellas said he had taken into account the one day Tihi had spent in custody.
He convicted the man, discharged the driving offences and fined him $200 for the theft.
