The Martina Whelan-captained side earned promotion to division two in 2020 after going through division three undefeated.
Whelan said its long-term aim was a division one return but maintaining its spot in division two was also a key goal.
"Some years ago we were in division one and over time we came down because we lost good players," she said.
"As much as we do our best, it is a bit demoralising going down the ladder.
"This year we went down from division two to division three and we felt we had the game to stay in division two."
Whelan, who plays for Grampians Golf Club, said her "optimistic" goal was for Western District to jump into division one in coming years.
"At the moment it's about winning and maintaining our spot in division two," she said.

Western District defeated Wimmera (five games to two), Northern (4.5-2.5), West Gippsland (5.5-1.5) and Kara Kara (5-2) in division three.
It took a squad of 10 - Cobden's Debbie Rix, Port Fairy's Anne Dwyer, Warrnambool duo Alison Sinclair and Lauren Higgins, Terang pair Marian Venn and Michelle Beasley, Timboon's Donna Weller, Lake Bolac's Leeanne Ritchie, Portland's Jeanette Sandeman and Whelan.
Sue Wilton, from Warrnambool, was team manager.
"It was a good all-round team performance and each individual caddie helped their player," Whelan said.
"Some of the games were tight. We didn't romp it home but we had convincing wins along the way."
Western District's men's team had a forgettable campaign, losing its four division two matches.
