Wesley limped out of training on crutches on Monday but has been given the all-clear for the Melbourne Arena showdown, where the NBL newcomers will make their debut.

The veteran Guam import was part of United's championship win in 2017-18 before spending last season with the New Zealand Breakers.

In sparkling form during the pre-season tournament, Wesley is a key cog in in the Phoenix forward line alongside Boomers star Mitch Creek as they come up against one of the NBL heavyweights.

Coach Simon Mitchell was also hopeful veteran guard Adam Gibson would be available after some persistent calf issues.

"He's had some calf issues across pre-season and we've been really conservative with him and making sure we keep him for the long haul," Mitchell said.

"We're doing our best to get him court time but I do know the progression has been quite good for him."

Sharpshooting import guard John Roberson, who claimed MVP honours at the pre-season tournament has also overcome a virus which went through the squad last week.

Roberson nailed an incredible seven-of-seven threes in SEM's opening win over Sydney before adding a further 16 points, four rebounds, seven assists and six steals in their Breakers victory.

Mitchell said his squad was itching to get started after a long preparation.

"We've had a bunch of firsts - like in China as our first game as a team - and then the pre-season so the guys are over the firsts.

"We're just building for United."

Mitchell spent four years as an assistant coach at United and was part of their title win but said he wasn't bothered about coming up against his old club.

"It's out first game and we won't be treating it any differently but the personal aspect to me, I'm not feeling any of it at all," he said.
