Police thanked members of the public for information which is believed to have led to the man being identified.
He is understood to be from a nearby regional centre.
Follow-up police investigations are being conducted.
Earlier: Police have released images of a man they wish to seek to about a brazen theft at a Camperdown hotel.
Camperdown police reviewed the security camera footage after an offender stole almost $5000 from a hotel on Tuesday evening.
Senior Constable Tanya Cook said the heist happened at 5.50pm Tuesday at the Commercial Hotel in Manifold Street.
The offender entered a service area and removed cash from a drawer.
Senior Constable Cook said officers were reviewing images which may be released to the public to help identify the the person of interest.
"We are asking anyone who was in or around the hotel at that time and noticed someone suspicious to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or the Camperdown police station," she said.
The suspect is described as being aged in his mid 20s, of medium build, with strawberry blond hair, wearing blue jeans and a two-tone hoodie - black hood and shoulders and grey body and arms.
