The Wolves fell 4-2 to Corangamite Lions at Harris Street Reserve in Warrnambool on Sunday.
The Lions found a way in a physical second half after scores were locked at 2-2 at half-time.
Lions striker Thijs 'Dutchy' Helder ran hard in the second half.
"(I'm) exhausted but pretty happy with the win," he said of the wet weather battle.
"We got pretty lucky, I think, there were a few close ones we got there.
"It worked in our favour a bit."
Teammate and wing Guy Faber was also thrilled with the victory.
"It's pretty good after heaps of training and we've just been pumping out the sessions," he said.
"It's a good feeling."
Young Lion Lachlan Rosolin was awarded player of the match.
Goals came Aaron Corrigan and Guy Faber while Jamie Norton hit the back of the net twice.
The Wolves scored twice in the first half with goals coming from golden boot winner Josh Bateman.
But they lost captain Alex McCulloch to injury in the first half and he didn't return to the pitch.
Unlike the Wolves, the Lions had an up-and-down season.
They won six matches, lost three and drew three times.
The Lions beat the Stawell Pioneers 3-1 in the semi-final to get to the decider.

Meanwhile, Warranmbool Rangers claimed a 2-1 victory against Warrnambool Wolves in a thrilling under 16s encounter.
The Rangers got the first through Ruben Cottee before Jace Nepean finished one for the Wolves at 30 minutes.
A 55th minute goal from Aleksander Fedley was enough to get the Rangers over the line.
It was the Rangers again in under 14s.
They thumped the Wolves 8-2 with player of the match Cai Sheppard-Wright scoring a hat-trick.
Warrnambool Rangers also overcame Warrnambool Wolves Black 3-1 in the under 12s.
Wolves Black player Wil Hasell was named best on the pitch.
