Aaron Rivvett, 29, of Rowans Road, appeared in Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Monday where he made a bail application.
He was arrested on Friday after Port Campbell and Timboon police, along with Warrnambool detectives, executed a search warrant at his property, which includes a house and a hall owned by his parents.
Police allege Mr Rivett forced entry into a vacant residential property in Peterborough between February 1 and 28 and stole a Makita drop saw worth $500.
The saw was located at the man's property on Friday, along with 10 wooden chisels believed to be stolen from a Nirranda property between September 16 and 17.
Mr Rivett is accused of breaking into that property with an unknown instrument and stealing the chisels, as well as hand powered tools and electronics worth $3000.
At the time of the alleged offending, the man was on bail for theft-related offences, including theft of a motor vehicle.
Police prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Kevin Mullins said the man's offending had escalated.
He said he was breaking into residential homes and properties within close proximity of his own home and was using up to one point (0.1 gram) of methamphetamine a day.
Lawyer Jack Rabl said his client had spent the weekend in the Warrnambool police station cells.
He said it was Mr Rivett's first time in custody and there were real prospects of the case being delayed and his client spending more time in custody on remand than he would ultimately be sentenced to.
Mr Rivett was released on bail with strict conditions, including he report to Warrnambool police two times per week, not leave Victoria, not contact any witnesses, abide by a 9pm to 7am curfew and take part in the court integrated services program.
Senior Constable Liam Cook of Port Campbell police said Friday's search warrants were executed by police after a spike in reported burglaries within the Moyne and Corangamite shires over the past month.
"There are several other active investigations in relation to burglaries and thefts in the area with inquiries ongoing," he said.
"Police urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers."
