The Saints defeated South Warrnambool 27-24 in a nail-biting grand final at Reid Oval on Saturday.
In a classic wet weather battle, the Saints edged their way to victory after scores were level midway through the final quarter.
Dobson said her post-match message to her team was that if you worked hard at the little things the end result would take care of itself.
"Try not to look at the big picture sometimes and just do the small things well," she said.
Dobson said that idea applied to many things including work, school, sport and friendships.
The Saints mentor said she knew the game would be close so she had her side focused on the small things.

"That's why we talked a lot about the one percenters and just chipping away," she said.
"It's too tiring and tussling to think about the end result.
"We can't think about the end of the game, it's each contest by contest."
Dobson said she and assistant Jess O'Connor were proud of the way their players had responded to instructions this season.
"We give them a lot of information, we probably do expect a lot from them," Dobson said.
"They're only 12 and 13-year-old girls."
She said she was thrilled with the way the players had used that information and brought it to games.
The Saints mentor said it took a community effort to win the flag.
"A lot of hours go into getting a premiership," she said.
