The long-time Magpie was recognised for more than four decades of work at Leura Oval on Sunday, notching the Hampden league's volunteer of the year award.

Reilly started at Camperdown in 1972 as an under 16 footballer, rising through the ranks to clock his maiden senior game in 1976.

He spent time coaching Kolora in the early 1980s but returned to the Magpies later in the decade, eventually enjoying a five-year stint as president.

Reilly said a passion for the club and "helping out" was the secret to his longevity.

"People look at the coaches but sometimes I think the volunteers are the most important," he laughed.

"(Camperdown) is a great club and we have a lot of volunteers."

Reilly was honoured to take out the prestigious award.

Reilly said he liked to manage "little jobs" so the president and board could focus attention elsewhere.

"It's bloody good," he said.

"Not that you expect this. It's not what you do the volunteer work for.

"I don't have any kids that are playing or anything. I do it because I love doing it and have time to do it.

"It's important for any football club."
