At 7am in Warrnambool it was a balmy 17.6 degrees, felt like 10.9 and the north-east wind was 35km/h with gusts to 46km/h. Overnight there had been gusts to 61km/h.
Northerly winds, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h, are forecast about elevated parts of western and central Victoria during Friday morning.
Winds are expected to ease from the late morning.
The strongest gusts have been:
- Mount William - 94 km/h at 5:38pm, and
- Ben Nevis - 83 km/h at 11:48pm
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees,
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony, and
- Keep clear of fallen power lines.
Today across the south-west will be cloudy, there's just a 10 per cent chance of rain, with north winds becoming light in the late afternoon then becoming west to south-westerly 20 to 30 km/h in the evening.
Warrnambool is expecting a top of 22 degrees, Hamilton 23, Colac 23, Ararat 24, Casterton 22, Mortlake 24, Heywood 22, Portland 20, Port Fairy 22, Terang 22 and Camperdown 22.
A high pressure system is over the Tasman sea.
A cold front and associated trough located to the west of Victoria will cross western and central Victoria late on Friday and then clear eastern Victoria on Saturday.
A weak ridge of high pressure will develop over Victoria on Sunday, then another cold front will cross southern Victoria early on Monday.
Showers are predicted for the next three days with a top of 12 on Saturday, 14 on Sunday and 13 on Monday.
