Ms Nicolson said as people learn the skills to make a stuffed toy dunnart, such as how to work to a pattern and basic stitching, they will also talk about the threatened species place in the local environment.

"The white-footed dunnart is a carnivorous marsupial which has just been discovered in the Belfast Coastal and at Mamm Reserve," Ms Nicolson said.

"Dunnarts are 12cms long, and live in a wetland, bush habitat.

"The workshops are designed for people aged between 12-25 years old.

"There will be a simple, little pattern for each person to take away. The workshop will involve piecing the material together and hand stitching to create their own character."

The dunnart sewing workshop is running at Brophy Family and Youth Services, from 10am-2pm on Monday 23 September. Another workshop focusing on 'craftivism' is running on Wednesday 25 September, from 10am-2pm.
