The Seagulls' football department is reviewing its options as it strives to break a 61-year premiership drought.
Incumbent mentor Dan Nicholson told The Standard earlier this month he was committed to Port Fairy in a playing capacity but was unsure if he would be head coach.
Seagulls president Noel Black was delighted to retain Nicholson's services and said the club hadn't yet pinned a senior coach.
Black revealed Port Fairy was upbeat and optimistic for its future.
"There's nothing to be announced just yet. We're in a review process which has been going on for quite a while," he said.
"We'll have something to announce when it's done. It's well advanced at the moment.
"Everything at this stage is pretty positive. We've had good feedback from the playing group and with 'Nicho' recommitting it's starting to really look up.
"We're in no great rush - we just want to get it 100 per cent right."
Black expected most of the playing group to recommit at Gardens Oval.
