His doctor told him he needed to slow down due to a knee injury - news he didn't take too kindly.

He loved serving up his famous hot chips while chatting to his loyal customers.

After making the decision to close at Christmas time in 2016, Mr Politis put the call out for someone to take over the business.

Since singing a lease with the new operators, he hasn't been able to wipe the smile off his face.

"I am so happy," Mr Politis said.

"They are such lovely people."

Ludeman Real Estate James Wright agent said the shop was set to re-open in late October or early November after the new operators signed a lease.

Mr Politis, 84, said he would not be involved in the day-to-day running of the shop, but would show the new operators the ropes in the weeks leading up to the grand opening.

He said it had been important to find someone who was keen to carry on the business the way it had been run for half a century.

Mr Politis said he had been overwhelmed by the number of people who stopped him in the street to ask when the shop would re-open.

Warrnambool Seafoods first opened its doors in January 1961.
