But, after hitting the practice court the morning after their double overtime semi-final loss to Spain, the signs of recovery were good.
Joe Ingles, Aron Baynes, Nicholas Kay and Chris Goulding were players from the regular rotation to take part in Saturday's optional shoot around in Beijing.
Baynes was typically staunch when leaving training, delivering his message as he breezed by journalists to the bus.
"I've got three words for you; nothing else, no questions, nothing," he said.
"Regroup. Refocus. Reinvigorate."
Reinvigoration will be key given the Boomers' brutal run through China peaked in a 50-minute slugfest with Spain, in which Australia led by as many as 11 points in the third quarter.
Just as they did in Cleveland's epic 2015 NBA Finals campaign, cramps hit Matthew Dellavedova late in Friday's game, forcing him to miss the second extra period.
He should recover in time to face France, who the Boomers beat 100-98 on Monday in Nanjing as part of their brilliant 6-0 run to the final four.
"Perhaps I played people too long and they were a little tired," Lemanis said immediately after the loss.
"But we had an opportunity to win the game and sometimes it doesn't happen for you."
With a maiden international medal still on the line, Lemanis hopes memories of fourth at Rio's 2016 Olympics will help refocus the group after another gutting loss.
"Certainly all the indications this morning are that we're in the right space in putting last night's game behind us, and refocusing and getting ourselves right for Sunday," he said.
"It's not a pressure; that's a driving force and a goal, and something special we're all committed to achieving.
"I think it's great that it's still something we can achieve, and it should drive us to come out and play well."
Goulding, describing the dressing room vibe as "horrible" after the loss, was still grappling with what could have been as he attempted to shift his focus to Sunday.
"That's what the realisation has to be, that there's a prize at the end of this," he said after training on Saturday.
"So we want to get a medal and once we get through today, we watch film and turn attention to the scout and what needs to be done we'll be ready to roll."
