60 community groups will be looking for new members and volunteers at the Warrnambool Volunteer and Community Participation Expo, being held from 1pm to 5pm on Sunday at Warrnambool's Uniting Church on Koroit St.

Warrnambool Meals on Wheels volunteer Amelia Webb has been working with the service for 6 months and loves the connection she has with her clients.

"I have always done some volunteering," Ms Webb said.

"My (three year old) daughter Odetta comes along and the clients light up when they see someone little.

"There is a great connection between the clients and the volunteers, the clients are eager for company and like telling stories.

"It's not a hard gig, unless the soup gets spilled."

Warrnambool Meals on Wheels coordinator Cecily Lindsey said volunteers need to be willing to engage with clients.

"Our volunteers are very committed and passionate about the service and they care about the clients," Ms Lindsey said.

"We are doing a welfare check on our clients as much as delivering food. Families are very grateful for our service."

Red Cross Emergency Services volunteer Rosalie Meadows said the service worked with people before, during and after emergency events to help with client's wellbeing.

"We help people prepare for an emergency, cope during an emergency and protect what is important to them," Ms Meadows said.

"Two main projects we run are the Pillowcase Project which targets primary school children and RediPlan for adults.

"These help people to prepare their mind, themselves before an emergency so they can recover afterwards.

"We are looking for more leadership, more young volunteers and more diversity because the majority of us are retirees. Mostly volunteers need to have a willingness to help people."
