"I released my first record in 1991 and then had a hiatus of 20 years after getting married and having a family," Cowling said.
"I have been back at it (playing music) for about three years now.
"I have kept writing songs all of this time and the new album is a collection of 12 songs from different time periods."
The former maths and physics teacher said writing the music for the songs came easily but the words were a challenge.
"The words I have to work on but I think I get a good result," he said.
"These songs that I particularly like, they all have meaning to me.
"I just hope others like them."
Cowling said the new album, With You Again, will be available at different shows he plays around Warrnambool.
"It's a pleasure to be performing and see the audience reactions," he said.
"I hope these songs help people to feel some of the gamut of human emotion."
