Ross won gold in the PR2 Women's Single Scull at the 2019 World Rowing Championships in Linz-Ottensheim, Austria.

The three-time Paralympian returned to the Australian rowing team after taking a three year break following the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.

She crossed the finish line in a time of nine minutes, 37 seconds and also set a world's best time in the event earlier in the week.

"I'm ecstatic - all the hard work has paid off," Ross said.

"Not once did my coach (Renae Domaschenz) not think it was possible - she believed in me and got me to where I am today.

"It's great being in the World Championships environment, it's amazing how much I've missed it - the excitement, the adrenalin and all the wonderful people that run events like this one," she said.

Ross said the Australian Rowing Team was one big family.

"We all support each other - it doesn't matter what boat class you're in, everyone's behind you all the way," Ross said.

She also shared her joy on her Facebook page.

"What an epic adventure this week has been," she said.

"I want to thank everyone for all the amazing support and messages I have received from all over the world.

"Winning gold at a world championship along with a world's best time is what dreams are made of."

Ross said she was elated her hard work and sacrifice was paying off.

The 38-year-old set a record time earlier in the week, crossing the finish line in a time of nine minutes, 24 seconds.

The Canberra resident took the win over previous record holder and closest competitor, Netherlands' Annika Van Der Meer.

"I wasn't aiming for the world's best time but it's really exciting to have gotten it with this being only the second year of the event running," Ross said.
