Alan Roberts, 33, of Whiskey Creek Road, made a self-represented bail application in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court late on Friday afternoon.
Bail was refused and he was remanded in custody until September 6.
Acting Sergeant Elissa Smith, of the Warrnambool police divisional response tasking unit, said police were delighted to take a potential 800 hits of crystal methylamphetamine out of the community.
She said the potential street value of the drugs was between $25,000 to $50,000 depending on how it was packaged and sold.
Members of the DRU intercepted a blue Holden Astra parked at the Centro shopping centre in north Warrnambool at 1.15pm on Thursday. The vehicle was observed parked and police swooped when another man got into the Astra.
The vehicle was searched and 60 grams of a crystal substance was found in a Tupperware container.
A resealable bag held another 17 grams of ice and there was multiple smaller resealable bags containing smaller amounts.
The man was arrested, interviewed and charged with possessing and trafficking ice and possessing police equipment - a red and blue flashing light.
The Warrnambool DRU members have made a number of high-profile arrests in the past couple of weeks.

Acting Sergeant Smith said it was an incident-free arrest which led to an outstanding result.
"It was very pleasing. We couldn't quite believe it, there were chunks of ice. To stop that amount of drugs getting on the streets is exactly what we are aiming for," she said.
In a separate case, Warrnambool man, Leigh James, 30, of no fixed address, did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody until September 9.
He was on bail for driving matters with the condition he not drive, but has been seen by police officers driving. When he reported, as part of his bail conditions, at the Warrnambool police station on Thursday he was arrested. The man was charged with multiple counts of breaching bail and driving while suspended, as well as possess the proceeds of crime and possessing cannabis.
