Mr Dufty, who was nominated by his daughter Grace, 11, a student at St Pius Primary School, said it was surprise after surprise at the event.
"I was very surprised and proud of what Grace did, she is a very smart kid," Mr Dufty said.
"It's good to recognise the good things that dads do, it's good to acknowledge when they are a big part of their kids' lives.
"My dad was a good dad and I try to be like him, he showed us the importance of hard work and family.
"We try to make sure we all have dinner around the table together and talk about our days."
Grace Dufty said she was very proud of her dad.
"He is always there to encourage me and tell me to step outside of my comfort-zone," she said.
"He tells me to try my hardest and work hard for my dreams.
"Dad sets a good example by always helping others."
Rotary Club of Warrnambool member Ian Cairns said it had been a long process to select the overall winner this year from the 1400 submissions received.
"It is always the most heartwarming thing about the event because we get to go through all of the entries.
"There are some of the most heartfelt, emotional stories."
Mr Cairns said there was a number of factors contributing to Mr Dufty winning the award.
"We know there is a lot of things Jayce does at Warrnambool College, he has helped a lot of kids through some rough experiences," he said.
"We have also heard some of the things he has done for the mountain bike club, helping out other members.
"He is a terrific fellow."
