The Australian beef industry is in a position where it has to make a decision on whether to push towards a herd rebuild, which means an individual decision to start earlier than the rest of the industry will be well rewarded.

Alec and Jo Moore from Weeran Angus have always believed when working with livestock, to gain maximum benefit, requires a lead time to have stock on the ground.
"You have to be planning at least two years ahead," Alec said. "With the national herd at an all time low, it is time to start planning for better seasonal times ahead."
The 13th Weeran Angus spring sale will be held at 1pm on September 10 and will include 59 bulls in total, with a small line of 18-month-olds and a larger offering of two-year-olds. All bulls can be viewed at a field day on September 3 at 10am.
"Our bull sale catalogue is packed with calving ease sires, which means extra heifers being joined will increase in value, but only if they are in calf," Alec said.
"Our team at Weeran have worked hard to keep improving our genetics for performance, calving ease and temperament.
"The enjoyment of watching home-bred sires Weeran Joel and Weeran Hooper continuing to kick goals gives us great satisfaction. Teaming Joel and Hooper's genetics with the best we can find in the breed, is continuing to develop a very exciting herd at Weeran Angus."
New sires continue to be introduced into the program, with Alpine Justice J108, Boonaroo Gravity G13 and Musgrave Mediator all featuring for the first time in the run of 18-month-old bulls.
Weeran Hooper has 14 sons in the sale, Wattletop Franklin G188 has 11 sons, Barwidgee Jay W is at the end of his era after many successful years and has four sons on offer and Ardcairnie F96 has three sons, all in the two-year-old age group. G188 is a trait leader for calving ease, growth, fertility and carcass traits, and the best sire to come out of the Wattletop program. The proven Barwidgee Jay W will be highly sought after. F96 has the calving ease and birthweight numbers teamed with exceptional growth.
Joel and Hooper are the full package for performance.
Boonaroo Gravity has well rounded performance with calving ease, moderate growth and excellent carcass qualities. Alpine Justice has excellent growth and an impressive IMF ebv in the top 10% of the breed. Musgrave Mediator is a heavily muscled son of the renowned Musgrave Sire, Aviator, and is a very correct and thick pocket rocket.
"The combination of these genetics have produced an outstanding line up of sale bulls," Alec said.
