Throughout the year The Ideas Place go-to guy Gareth Colliton has been helping south-west residents foster their ideas in the lead up to the big pitch night on September 19.

He has been hosting workshops, masterclasses and meet ups across the region.

More than 100 people have connected with Mr Colliton to seek information and advice on making their business ideas become a reality.

"We've had some really great start-ups get involved," he said.

"(Residents) Sam Pereira recycles domestic wares into beautiful objects and restores ceremony to a good cup of tea. Megan Twycross is establishing a youth arts company. Richard Pritchard is developing a place for students to learn digital skills for film and gaming."

On the final pitch night, which will be held at Fletcher Jones Warrnambool, a $10,000 first prize will be awarded.

"Six teams are pitching on the night and each team will go home with a prize," Mr Colliton said.

"The teams that don't win will take home $2000 each. The pitch process itself is competitive. To arrive at the pitch you will have to have done our bootcamp which is on September 11.

"It will teach you how to pitch and talk about your business in a really succinct style so that you can get across your idea quickly and effectively to an investor or partner."

The bootcamp will be hosted at Deakin Warrnambool.

"It's a fairly intense day," Mr Colliton said.

"You will learn a lot and how to stand up in front of a crowd. You will be talking about why you have this idea, your passion and where you are heading with it. They will really sell it in the hope that someone invests in them, whether that's with money, assistance or mentorship."

He said The Ideas Place, which is funded through Launch Vic, had also forged connections between investors, mentors and participants.

"We've had philanthropists donate money to the cause, and investors meet with participants to discuss financial support as the business develops," he said.

"We also have a growing list of supportive experts who give their time in mentoring roles, advising new businesses and giving hints and tips as to how best to proceed."
