The Blind Boys of Alabama are among the first performers announced for the iconic festival, which will be staged on March 6-9.
The first version of the Blind Boys of Alabama burst onto the scene in 1939, with generations that followed ensuring regeneration of the act kept it relevant to the present day.
Veteran US folk singer-songwriter John McCutcheon will return to Port Fairy, as will Irish songstress Eleanor McEvoy.
Other acts named in the opening batch of performers include Patty Griffin, YolanDa Brown, C.W. Stoneking and The Maes.
Port Fairy Folk Festival program director Caroline Moore said the opening performer announcements would create much excitement.
"What a line-up we have in store for our 44th festival," Ms Moore said.
"I am delighted to announce these renowned artists for our next festival in March, which will also be filled with special events, family activities, and non-stop musical entertainment.
"This is a festival for every music lover, from the young to the young at heart.''
Full four-day festival tickets go on sale to subscribers from 12:01am on Monday, September 2.
Half festival passes for the Friday/Saturday or Sunday/Monday, introduced for the first time this year, will be available in mid-September once the subscriber allocation has been exhausted.
